Remembering Atatürk
Monday, November 10, 2008 by Web AdminSeventy years ago today, the Turkish nation lost its beloved leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Every 10th of November ever since, we commemorate this towering figure of world history by pausing to remember his life, his career as a soldier and statesman, and his achievements.
Here we bring to your attention a full-feature documentary film, “Atatürk,” made for English-speaking audiences. The film features archival footage and interviews with a wide array of Ottoman, Turkish and military historians, as well as with eyewitnesses or their relations. “In the job that had to be done, nobody did it as well as Atatürk,” observes one eyewitness, Donald E. Webster (teacher at International College in Turkey, 1931–1934, and author of “Turkey of Atatürk”).
May his soul rest in peace.
